Before the San Francisco Giants or Oakland A’s there was “The San Carlos Bums” Baseball team circa 1940s. The first organized baseball team in San Carlos. This picture was shot at Burton Park.
The ballplayers were:
Bob Genochio, Bob Vignall, Rocky Guida, Bob Wilkins, Bob Anderozzi (my Uncle), Eddie Guida, Cyrus Rinck (my Father)
The north west corner of San Carlos Avenue and El Camino Real that’s now occupied by another (Brand X) Real Estate company. The picure was shot in the late 1920′s or early 1930′s. Note the San Carlos Train Station in the background.
The Carlos Theater circa 1942. During the second World War local San Carlos residents sold bonds to help finance the war effort. This is a picture of the lobby with local San Carlos residents doing their part to help win the war. The Carlos Theater was demolished in the late 1970′s to make way for the headquarters of Eureka Federal Savings which went out of business during the banking crash in the 1980′s. Today on the old site of the Carlos Theater is the San Mateo County Transit headquarters, Sotheby’s International Realty and various other businesses.
The front facade of the Carlos Theater circa 1940′s. The Art Decco/Moderne building was the landmark building in San Carlos from the time it opened in the late 1930′s until it was demolished in the late 1970′s. The design of the marquee with the curved top was similar to many of the movie houses build in that time period. You can see a smaller version of the design on the signs of the Carlos Club and lighting store on the El Camino in San Carlos. The interior featured swirling floral murals illuminated by back lighting, and a curvelinear covelit ceiling.
