I’m sad to report that San Carlos is loosing the only independent hardware store in town. White Oak Hardware has lost their lease. What a shame! I will miss the personal attention and advice. In today’s big box world it was nice to know that you could run down to the corner of Laurel and Saint Francis find easy parking to dash in for ant spray (that actually works), a duplicate key or even that hard to find screw in fuse for an old fuse box.
No it wasn’t fancy or over the top stocking the latest gadget, it was just there, always open and having what you need to fix something on a Sunday afternoon. Now the only choice for hardware is on the other side of the El Camino with a staff who can’t use a screw driver, only having three of something when you need four and almost always an ingress-egress nightmare!
