Okay it might be a little more than one tank of gas, but I found a great little Gold Country town with a yummy four star pub. This is the must visit Gold Country Town of Volcano, CA. Located just outside of Sutter’s Creek and Jackson, a ten minute detour off Highway 88. On the main street there’s one of the best “pub food” restaurants I have ever been to! Yes in Volcano, CA! It’s called the Union Inn (see link below) if you want a great burger, lamb shank, duck wings or anything else on the menu…Don’t hesitate! Its all great! The Union Inn is also a B&B with lots of charm and great accommodations.
The town is only a few blocks long, but there’s lots of history to read about and several shops to explore. The big cities of Jackson and Sutter’s Creek are within a fifteen minute drive . Along the way plan to stop at several up and coming Amador County wineries. You’ll be surprised at the quality of the wines!
Volcano will get cold in the winter months, so dress in layers, in the summer it gets out right hot! Volcano has a great 4th of July Parade and wonderful theater and art community.
